Men Spend More On Mother's Day Than Valentine's

A new survey has found that men will spend more money on Mother's Day than they do on Valentine's Day.

The research, conducted by Asda, found that men will spend 68% more money on their mum's special day, than they will on romantic gifts for their other half on 14 February.

In fact, 17% of men said they would rather be stood up on a date than see their mum disappointed on Mother's Day, while 11% said they would rather be late to their own wedding. A quarter admitted that they would rather see their favourite football team lose than let down their mum.

Interestingly, in 2016, Asda sold 23% more chocolate, Prosecco and novelty gifts on Mother's Day than Valentine's Day and this year the supermarket chain expects to sell twice as many bunches of flowers on Mother's Day in comparison to Valentine's Day.

In addition, the retailer predicts it will sell 60% more cards and 54% more nightwear on 26 March.

A spokesperson for Asda is quoted as saying: "It's great to hear that so many of us are looking to spoil our mums this year. Mother's Day is the perfect opportunity to let her know just how amazing she is and there's something for every budget at Asda."
