The singer was appearing on The Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw when he made the revelation.
The 23-year-old has kept a relatively low profile ever since One Direction announced that they were to take a break in 2015. While other members of the band have gone on to work – and release – new solo material, Styles turned to acting, having a role in Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk. Following that project, the singer has been back in the music studio and is about to release his first solo album.
Commenting on his busy work schedule, he said he didn't have much time for dating.
He told the host: "I haven't dated in a long time really because I went away to do the movie [Dunkirk], then did the album, so I haven't in a while. I have a couple of candles left still though."
He went on to explain what it was like trying to find a date when famous, to which he replied: "I feel like with all of the stuff – how people date now with all online stuff – I feel like you can do that [Google] with anyone really.
"If you're looking at someone's profile before seeing them it's kinda the same...
"No, I used to [research dates], then I said, 'I'm not going to do that anymore.' It's impossible to go in without a perception of someone and you've never met them, and I started feeling like that was wrong and weird."
