Number Of Divorced People Rises In Ireland

Ireland's Census 2016 has revealed that the number of people in the country who are divorced has increased.

The first set of results of Census 2016 were published on Thursday morning, 6 April, and found that the number of divorced people increased by 16,125 to 103,895.

The Census is also the first to record same-sex civil partnerships and marital status. In total, there are 6,034 same-sex couples in Ireland – 3,442 were male couples and 2,592 were female.

Two million households filled out the Census form on the evening of Sunday, 24 April 2016.
