According to US Weekly, the couple separated in April 2012, with Whedon filing for divorce in December of that year. Details of the former couple's separation have only just emerged, it is understood.
Whedon, who is a director, cited irreconcilable differences for the split. He also asked for joint legal and physical custody of the couple's two children – Arden, 14, and 12-year-old Squire.
