The statistics reveal that between January and March, 13,279 births were registered, alongside 15,711 deaths and 3,578 marriages.
The number of births registered was 28 (0.2%) fewer than in the same period of 2016, while the number of deaths registered was 223 (1.4%) more than in the same period of 2016.
Elsewhere, provisional figures highlight that there were 3,578 marriages in total for Q1 – 66 more than the first quarter of 2016 (an increase of 1.9%).
There were 144 same-sex marriages, a fall of 11 (7.1%) compared with Q1, with 21 (14.6%) of the same-sex marriages registered in the first quarter being changes from civil partnerships.
There were 10 civil partnerships – four male and six female – two fewer than during Q1 2016.

The National Records of Scotland have released provisional figures for births, deaths and marriages during the first quarter of 2017 in the country.The statistics reveal that between January and March, 13,279 births were registered, alongside 15,711 deaths and 3,578 marriages.
