According to a new survey, Barcelona is the most passionate city for couples to visit.
The findings, by sunshine.co.uk, looked at 'sex in the city breaks' and asked more than 2,100 people – of whom had been on a city break abroad with their partner within the last 12 months – about their romantic behaviour while on the trip.
Initially, respondents were asked which location they had visited for their city break and how long the break had been – which was found to be an average of three nights. They were then asked how many times they had made love with their other half during the trip.
From these findings, the top 10 cities of love were revealed – based on where respondents had made love the most. Barcelona topped the list with eight times, closely followed by New York and Paris (seven). Rome, Amsterdam, Dubai, Prague and Madrid also made the list.
When asked if they had more sex on their city break than they would in the same time period at home, 95% admitted yes. When asked why they thought this was the case, 42% said it was because they were more relaxed, while 16% said it was because they drank more alcohol.
Those taking part in the poll were also asked what they felt to be the most romantic city break activities. A meal in a restaurant topped the list with 21% of the vote, with a walk through a park (16%) and drinks and dancing in a bar/club (15%) also popular with participants.
Commenting on the findings, Sue Anderson, sunshine.co.uk, said: "Paris and Rome are traditionally known as really romantic cities, but it seems that Barcelona has taken the crown now as the place where holidaymakers feel most frisky.
"Those hoping for a more, shall we say, active love life on their holiday should take heed of this list and book a trip to the coastal Spanish city with their other half."
