Young People Have Parents Wash Holiday Laundry

A new survey has found that a number of young people in the UK still have their parents wash their laundry after a holiday – even if they no longer live at home.

The findings, published by sunshine.co.uk, discovered that around a fifth of 18 – 30 year olds still relied on their parents to do their washing.

Over 1,770 people, aged 18 and over and from the UK, took part in the study. They were all initially asked how long it took them to wash all of their dirty laundry after they returned home from their last holiday. The average answer was found to be three months, with many saying that they simply prioritised other clothing over their 'holiday wardrobe'.

Those aged between 18 and 30 were then asked if they did their own washing upon their return home – to which 22% said that it was their parents who actually completed the chore. However, of these people, 78% confessed that they did not actually live with their parents.

Commenting on the findings, Sue Anderson, sunshine.co.uk, said: "For those parents still doing their grown-up children's laundry when they return home from holiday, when they don't even live in the family home any more, they could do with saying 'no' from time to time, or else their offspring won't ever learn to stand on their own two feet."
