Miley Cyrus has revealed the reason why she ended her engagement to Liam Hemsworth.
The couple confirmed their separation in 2013 – a year after they became engaged – but have since reunited.
Now, explaining why they split for a period of time, Cyrus told interviewer Howard Stern: "I had to [end the romance]. I don't like when relationships are two halves trying to make a whole.
"So, I don't think that I have that co-dependency. I think people that break up and get back together, that's awesome.
"You get time to be yourself. You get time to grow up. I think if you're growing up attached to another person, you never really get solid as your own being."
Cyrus, 24, and 27-year-old Hemsworth started dating in 2009 after meeting on the set of The Last Song. They announced their engagement in June 2012, only to separate the following year. In 2016, after months of speculation, it was confirmed that the couple were back together.
