The 28-year-old appeared on ITV's Lorraine on Thursday morning to discuss his new film Jungle in which he plays the role of Israeli adventurer Yossi Ghinsberg. The film is a depiction of the real-life story of how Ghinsberg survived alone in the Amazon rainforest for three weeks.
However, in order to prepare for the role, the former Harry Potter actor admitted that he starved himself ahead of filming – something which left his girlfriend, 33-year-old Erin Darke, concerned.
Losing 14 pounds over the course of filming to reflect his character's physical emaciation and hunger, Radcliffe told the show's host: "I had a fillet of white fish and a chicken breast and a protein bar for a two weeks before the scene.
"For scenes where I was supposed to be thin, I didn't eat for two days. It is not a healthy thing to do, I don't recommend it.
"I did it for a very short period of time, it was kind of okay. It was worth it though for the meal I had afterwards, it was really great."
He added: "She [Erin] was very happy [when I stopped the diet], she was a little worried before. A lot of people were slightly concerned for me."
Daniel and Erin met on the set of the 2013 movie Kill Your Darlings, have been together ever since.
