The couple have previously spoken about how they have worked through their issues to keep their marriage going, but speaking to The Sun on Sunday, the 50-year-old confessed: "I am very sad to say that Matthew and I have separated."
Now, Closer has quoted sources as saying that the television presenter had tried to save her marriage for 10 years.
They claimed: "Davina is heartbroken but she's also exhausted from fighting so hard to make things work. They'd been trying for a decade but things really collapsed over the past 12 months.
"There was always tension over Davina being the breadwinner. She always tried to ensure Matthew wasn't emasculated by her success – she wanted to spend more quality time with him but she was wearing herself out and pushing herself too hard."
Davina and Matthew, 48, have three children together; daughters Holly, 16, and Tilly, 14, and 11-year-old son Chester. Despite the couple's separation, they have said that their children will remain their "number one priority".
