Applications Welcome For WoW Entry-Level Research Scholarships

Wellbeing of Women (WoW) has announced it is accepting applications for its entry-level research scholarships, research training fellowships and new postdoctoral research fellowships.

WoW is also offering dedicated entry-level research scholarships for midwives.

The awards fund the brightest and best future stars in obstetrics, gynaecology, and midwifery or with a focus on women’s reproductive health.

Research can be in midwifery, maternity services, basic science, clinical or translational research in pregnancy and birth and the postpartum period, general wellbeing surrounding women’s health issues, and gynaecological cancers.

Awards are open to applicants studying or employed in the UK or Ireland.

The entry-level research scholarships/entry-level research scholarships for midwives provide 'pump-priming' funds to enable candidates to be exposed to a research environment, or to obtain pilot data for bids for definitive funding.

Applicants will normally be new to the research discipline and would not previously have been involved in substantial or funded research projects. Scholarships provide a single payment, up to a maximum of £20,000.

The purpose of the research training fellowships is to encourage medical graduates to pursue a career in academic medicine. Fellowships are awarded for up to three years and cover the cost of a full-time salary per annum for Specialty Registrar grade (or equivalent).

Research training fellows will normally be expected to enrol for a higher degree. The upper limit of this award is £250,000.

The postdoctoral research fellowships are new and aim to support research-active lecturers to gather data and strengthen their bids for longer-term substantive funding.

Applicants must have been awarded an MD or PhD within the last five years and be employed by the NHS, HEI or on a postdoctoral research fellowship with at least 50% of their time funded to undertake research. The upper limit of this award is £30,000.

The closing date for applications is 20 September at 1pm.
