The 31-year-old actress revealed that she was upset when she was included in a list of homosexual actors on the show and felt that her coming out experience had been "taken" from her.
Speaking on the Nancy podcast, Samira said: "Someone from my cast actually, during the interview they were talking about gay actors in the cast, and they mentioned my name and I saw it in print, and I cried.
"That's something that somebody took from me. You should be able to come out on your own terms."
The actress is married to Lauren Morelli, a writer and fellow star of Orange is the New Black, and believes her experience on the show helped her discover her sexuality.
"I think that if I wasn't portraying these characters, I wonder how my own journey with my own sexual orientation, how I would embrace that," Samira said.
