Petra Ecclestone Hopes For Greater Autism Awareness

Petra Ecclestone has called for more awareness around the subject of autism, after a worrying time before she learned that her daughter does not have the condition.

Writing for a celebrity guest column in Closer magazine, the model revealed that she was worried about Lavinia, who she has with her ex-husband James Stunt, as she was progressing slowly for her age.

When the concerned mum consulted her doctor on the matter, she learned the five year old has some learning difficulties, but is not autistic.

"Lack of knowledge around the subject is something I'm personally trying to solve," she wrote, and highlighted her frustration that doctors struggled to diagnose her daughter.

"One even suggested that her rowdy behaviour was down to the fact that she 'needed a nanny'. I met many families with autistic children who experienced similar frustrations."

The daughter of former Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone has now opened a London clinic called Petra's Place, which is a therapy centre providing treatment for pre-school children with autism, and she wants to help families struggling with the learning disability.

"It's incredibly rewarding and I really hope it makes a difference," she added.
