Shawn Mendes Feels He Must 'Prove' He's Not Gay

Canadian pop star Shawn Mendes has admitted that he feels a need to "prove" he isn't gay.

The 20-year-old singer revealed that he sometimes wants to be seen out with "attractive women" in order to dispel the rumours, even though he has no issue with the LGBT community.


He explained to Rolling Stones magazine: "In the back of my heart, I feel like I need to be seen with someone, like a girl in public, to prove to people that I'm not gay.

"Even though in my heart I know it's not a bad thing, there's still a piece of me that thinks that. And I hate that side of me."

The singer, who previously dated Hailey Baldwin, added: "Maybe I am a little more feminine- but that's the way it is. That's why I am me."
