UK Govt Vows To End HIV Transmissions By 2030

The UK Government at Westminster has signed up to a pledge to end HIV transmissions by 2030.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock made the commitment ahead of a summit on Wednesday 30 January.

The UK has already beaten the global 2020 targets for HIV prevention, with just 4,363 new cases diagnosed in 2017.

Unger the new programme, new HIV diagnoses will hopefully be at zero by 2030.

The government plans to invest in new funding prevention efforts which will be specifically targeted at gay and bisexual men, those who inject drugs and certain minority groups.

£600,000 in funding will go to 13 local innovative initiatives to help reduce the risk of people contracting or passing on HIV, to reduce the stigma that surrounds the disease, and reach under-served populations.
