LGBT-Inclusive Relationship & Sex Education To Be Taught From 2020

Schools in England are set to introduce LGBT-inclusive sex education into their curriculums, the Department for Education announced this week.

The changes will be implemented by 2020 as part of a curriculum reform to place more focus on subjects that address mental and physical health as well as personal relationships.

The scheme of work will be adapted to suit pupil's ages, with primary schools covering relationship education while secondary school students will learn about both relationships and sex education.

The guidance has had its first update since 2000, to include discussion on LGBT+ relationships as well as other issues such as mental health.

£6 million from the Department's budget has been set aside to ensure that teachers will be fully prepared to handle the new subjects in 2020.
