The singer's representative announced their split over the weekend after just eight months of marriage. The couple had been on and off before settling down and getting married last December, however it seems things are now over for good.
A source told People magazine: "They are having a break right now because they needed it. It was a bad situation with a lot of disagreements.
"They both agreed it's better to spend time apart, but this doesn't mean their relationship is completely over."
Adding to the prospect of a future reconciliation, the insider added: "They are great together when they are happy. There is absolutely hope that they will get back together again."
It was also recently claimed that Miley had suggested she and Liam attend couple's therapy before calling it quits.
