The couple, who share five year-old daughter Anaiya together, believes they have become better parents since going their separate ways after 11 years together.
While no longer romantically involved, Nadine still lives close to the former NFL player which allows him to maintain a close relationship with their daughter.
Speaking to HELLO! magazine, the former 'Girls Aloud' songstress explained: "This feels like the right way to do it. As a mother, sometimes you feel like you're doing everything. This way, Jason can stand up and be counted and do his part as a father and not rely on me to do everything. I think he's a better parent in this situation."
The 34 year-old pop star insists there are no issues between the couple as they remain good friends.
She added: "We're not together as a couple, but I see him every day. We get on great - we were always best friends. You have that thing where you're really close and sometimes a friendship can ruin a relationship."
